Whether in town or on the farm, the space-saving barn door provides an elegant country feel. The barn door is currently a high demand product; Is it a timeless look or is it currently on trend?
Designing a home can be difficult. It’s hard to know if something that might be popular now will stand the test of time.
Barn doors have been a functional yet aesthetically pleasing product for a long time – we believe it will remain that way for years to come, especially when considering its stylistic versatility.
Barn doors are the champions of the country in both traditional and modern interior schemes.
Paint your favorite shade to create a custom look, or leave it as it is with its three coats of white primer.
Besides looking good, there are lots of great reasons why a barn door would make a lovely addition to your home!
1 Resale Value
The farm trend shows no signs of slowing down any time soon. According to research by the popular real estate website Zillow, homes listed with “barn doors” sell 60 days sooner than those that don’t.
Whether you’re selling your home for beginners or you’re a home pro, these metrics are pretty compelling!
The farmhouse look is warm, inviting and comfortable – all important qualities if you’re trying to make a home sale! The barn door is the perfect personal touch to turn your home into a quick seller.
2 Saves space
While standard doors need a wide area to open and close, barn doors only require adequate wall space, meaning you can make maximum use of your square footage for furniture and decor.
On the other end of the spectrum, if your home has a more open, modern layout, adding a primed barn door can be the perfect solution for creating more intimate spaces.
The blended dining room and kitchen is nice, but sometimes you want to be able to hide away the mess you made in the kitchen. Installing barn doors can give you the option of privacy, while still providing easy access to the kitchen while you host a dinner party!
3 Easy to install
Not only do barn doors save space while making your home feel cozy, they are also an easy to install, lightweight product.
Pocket doors are the bane of contractor’s existence- they require a huge opening covered in drywall with NO studs. This makes for a flimsy wall. As if that weren’t inconvenient enough, pocket doors are always falling off their tracks, making them inconvenient for homeowners too.
A barn door is an excellent alternative, for both contractors and homeowners alike! Because a barn door can be installed on the outside of an existing wall, homeowners can install a sliding barn door on their own! Where pocket doors were the solution to small spaces, barn doors now reign.
Because the door is installed on a track, the person opening the door doesn’t strain under the weight of the door. This makes the barn door an excellent option for people of all ages and physical conditions.
Plus, they don’t have the awkward and often dysfunctional locking mechanisms that pocket doors are notorious for.
4 Aesthetic appeal
Eightdoors primed barn door is both functional and beautiful. It can be left in its elegant white state, or can be custom painted to match your home decor. It comes to you ready to be hung, or painted, depending on your taste.
The distressed look is essential to farmhouse style. This can be easily accomplished with some wax and chalk paint.
For a more contemporary home, the smooth, pre-primed finish will blend in well with the clean, straight lines characteristic of the current style.
Obviously a barn door does a great job at being a door. It is also a design feature that adds instant appeal to any space, it is a focal point in any room.
What could otherwise be a basic, even boring, element becomes charming and interesting with a barn door. What’s not to love?
5 In style for years…with more to come!
At what point does something stop being instyle, and just becomes a staple?
It seems as though barn doors have reached this point. Articles dating back to 2015 question whether or not barn doors were going out of style.
We are here to say that in 2020, barn doors are still here and more stylish than ever! Farmhouse style is as timeless as farms themselves.
A barn door is essential to complete the farmhouse aesthetic. Mind you, not every door has to be a sliding barn door!
If you can only have one, consider installing a primed barn door in a bathroom down a narrow hallway. That way, you don’t have to sacrifice precious floor space or style!
As long as the door is well painted, and as long as the wood has been appropriately dried, is there a reason why this door cannot be used outside on a pool cabana?
Hello Charles,
Thank you for your comment. We advise do not use our door for external application because any scratch on the paint could cause the moisture to enter the wood. The wood on these door are dried to 8 percent moisture, and are NOT treated for weather, the glue used in it is water based and will unglue over time.
Thanks!
