Top Architecture Trends for 2023: You’ll want to keep up with these!

Setting aside the fact that we can’t believe it’s almost 2023, we are still looking forward to these upcoming architecture trends! We’ve got a sneak preview of the decor, material and innovations to come for this upcoming year.

In 2022, we saw biophilic and natural textures take off as a result of living a few tech heavy, inside years during the height of the pandemic. This trend will definitely influence the years to come, especially as people become more aware of how their consumer lifestyles affects the natural world.

The past few years have certainly solidified the type of architecture that home buyers and designers desire, a few new looks are beginning to emerge.

Goodbye Formal Dining Room, Hello Open Concept Design

Even the most lavish $3 million dollar homes are forgoing a formal dining room for a more flexible, open concept design. Large family spaces can be dressed up to create a more formal feel when necessary, but for day to day use the dining space is more practical and comfortable.

Because we now realize how much of our lives can be lived from the inside of our home, it’s essential that rooms are multi-functional. Your living space needs to cater to your day to day activities more than ever.

Outdoor Living Space

People are still very interested in spending more time hosting friends and family outside. There is a huge uptick in folks wanting to create gigantic porches equipped with a cooking and eating area. People are also interested in installing fire pits, hot tubs and covered areas with heaters for outdoor fun.

A previously overlooked outdoor space is now trending! Flat roofs are being transformed into super chic rooftop decks. With or without an exceptional view, rooftop decks feel glamorous.

Where you have a flat, supported roof, you may be letting valuable real estate be wasted. Rooftop decks are growing in popularity, especially if they have an exceptional view or are in an area with temperate seasons. This architecture trend is here to stay!

Maximizing Natural Light

After spending so much time indoors, people have really come to realize that it’s essential to maximize the natural light in your home. More daylight equals improved sleep patterns, focus, and mood. Plus, it helps us produce more vitamin D which is essential for your health. Installing big, bare windows is of course the best way to achieve this. Designing with reflective surfaces and using glass panel doors in your home’s interior will help that light emanate throughout your home.

Curves are in

Did you know that curved designs and furniture can have a positive impact on well-being, evoking emotional responses such as calm, content and hope? Curves in your home can instantly up the cozy factor. From wall art to furniture, you will start to see this design trend take off. Some people are even turning hallways into archways or adding rounded ceilings to really take the look to the next level.

In stark contrast to edgy and straight line looks that have been trending recently, home decor trends this upcoming year are all about soft and round shapes.

Natural materials not only add warmth to a space and bring in a sense of coziness, but they also help to offset the amount of technology we’re being forced to use during this unusual time.  Round edges are more natural and even a bit romantic.

Sustainability

We hope this trend is here to stay! Designing with sustainability in mind is fun because there are so many ways to do it!

When shopping at thrift stores and flea markets, you know you can find a one of a kind AND high quality item. Buying vintage is sustainable and super fun! You are guaranteed to add more personality to your space when you buy something pre-owned. It seems like everyday there is an announcement about a supply shortage. That, and the ever increasing costs of lumber make it difficult to find new furniture and decor. Thrifting eliminates that potential, what you see in store is what you get!
